 Genre Pam cooke Hyperdemic Syringe Rick Altom  Generic Pleasures Narrative Representation Stuart Hall Encoding/Decoding Batman Arkham Knight  There are many theories about how audiences understand the construction of narrative and I am going to discuss these with reference to Rock Steadies game Batman Arkham Knight and specifically the sequence where the villain reveals himself to be Batmans old friend Jason Todd. One of the genre theories is by Rick Allen (1999) and this is linked with horror and emotional scenes, this also links back to batman Arkham night, when Jason takes off his make we get a slow pan with the camera of them staring at each other and we zoom in on Batmans face and you can see the amount of shock on him, as well as the facial expressions the music suddenly cuts out and its just dialogue, this makes things more tense
