Media effects is the many ways society is influenced by the media including films, video games, music etc. The two sides are an active audience and a passive audience. An active audience is more likely engage and respond to the media and might even challenge it. A passive audience is likely going to accept the the media for what it is with ought any challenge and therefore are more likely affected by the messages. The two products I’m going to be discussing are GTA 5 which is a violent video game and the popular social media app TikTok
TikTok is by far one of the fastest growing apps of all time proven by the chart. It is a good app as its really entertaining and east to grow on as their are so many people using it, so you can get your personal brand more of a chance to grow and expand. As well as that there are so many videos that teach people how to do things and widen their knowledge.
However TikTok isn’t always an amazing platform.
This is about a kid that killed his neighbour because of TikTok. He got so obsessed with getting more followers and views that his followers wanted to see him carry on tormenting his neighbours and eventually he ended up killing them. This can be a huge problem to young children as they can get so addicted and caught up in an app that it ends up taking their life’s,
Another type of media is video games and this is a very controversial topic as their are mixed opinions on weather its good or bad.

The Hypodemic passive theory suggests that messages are injected directly into the brains of mass audiences . GTA is a good example because things like the way the characters talk and act are meant to make the consumer like it and make them want to be like them in this case its gang violence.
Another theory is the cultivation theory and this suggests that people who are regularly exposed to media over long periods of time perceive the worlds social realities as presented in the media which can alter their behaviours in a negative this in this instance as in gta everything isn’t taken seriously and robbing banks and killing people is made out to be fun and joke.
Over all from my point of view I think as technology becomes more powerful and media becomes more popular theirs no way to avoid being exposed to it.I think people who are sensitive should stay away from social media etc and people who are not can handle it so its all down to the individual.
